Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Knowledge may hinder

(Matthew 16 v 13-19)

Here is Peter.

Coming up with a heavenly gem – instead of an impulsive comment.

It was so profound, Jesus said he would build his church on the pivotal truth of it.

But, what actually happened?

Peter was called out of the familiar

And now had walked in the unfamiliar for some time.

(After all, he was called in chapter 4 and this was chapter 16)!

He had learned a lot about this Jesus

Miracles, storms, “happenings”….

His own mother – in – law healed.

There was a lot of “stuff” in there.

But, all he had learned about Jesus

All that had contributed to the grid of his experience and knowledge

Seemed to step aside for a moment of time.

As a friend of mine might have said

It was a “boom and there you are” moment.

Flesh and blood had not revealed this….it was the Father in heaven.

Now, consider:

Things we already think we know about Jesus,

About his Church

His People

May also need to step aside for a moment

In order for heaven to speak a fresh revelation.

Maybe we should read the word as if we know nothing, and believe afresh that God can do anything he wants.
