Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Centrepiece

(Psalm 118 v 8)

Some years ago my wife and I were having a discussion

About “indications of importance” with regard to friendship.

That kicked off something, and

In an insecure moment I voiced my doubts about how much

A particular couple valued our friendship

“Oh that’s easy to measure” my wife said.

“How’s that?” I said.

“Well, we have just sent them a card (it was their anniversary or something)

And if they place our card on or near the centre of their mantelpiece then that means we are really important to them”

“I know the way her mind works” my wife said.

Needless to say, when we popped round soon afterwards, I headed straight to their mantelpiece

The centrepiece of their living room

To see where our card was.

No, I’m not going to say, because that’s missing the point.

I did find out something else, though.

I found out the other day that if you count all the verses in the bible

And then find the middle one, it is Psalm 118:8

It is better to trust in the LORD, than to put confidence in man (NKJV)

Which does seem to be a fitting centrepiece to God’s irrefutable word.

And a real help in times of insecurity!
