Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

The song we sing

Song of Solomon

This did not strike me until yesterday

The writer of the Song of Songs was the son of a king.

Solomon’s father was a man after God’s own heart

Also a song writer but a warrior too.

David.

Let’s go back to one incident

When David was not yet enthroned.

He faced an enemy and slaughtered him

And the Philistines were routed.

But what would have happened in that corner of Judah if he had lost that battle

Or even refused to fight in the first place?

What kind of song would his son have written then?

A lover’s song? A story of the beloved?

Or a different song, a lament?

This reminds me of our warrior King

Who, 2000 years ago won the battle

I can sing today, because yesterday

Jesus won my freedom from the enemy

And my song is no lament.
