(Psalms 62 v 11 & 12)
I remember walking into a bookshop once
It struck me that there was a lot of knowledge here.
Distilled into page after page
Thousands of concepts, ideas,
Interpretations and illuminations
All about God and Faith.
And I became overwhelmed
Because this was a "Christian" bookshop
And many books were "essential reading"
The thought occurred that I was never going to get all this into my head
Or heart.
And if I didn't then how was I going to become
What God had destined me to become?
There was so much to know.
Of course, I eventually saw this for what it is
A resource, not an exercise in force - feeding.
But there are bits of knowledge that none of us can really do without
And the psalmist reminds himself of two essential nuggets.
That God is strong and God is loving.
There are some days when that's enough knowledge for me..
Quite a few, in fact.
