Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Heartburn

Heartburn

(Psalm 42, 43 Luke 24)

David, way back in the Old Testament is in the dumps

With only memories of a better time

He is lost, and in need of finding his way back.

The two disciples on the road home to Emmaus are in the dumps

Lost, and disappointed

With only memories of a better time and promises unfulfilled

Today, all around us people are also lost

Perhaps with memories of a better time

But definitely in need of home.

In all three scenarios, the answer is the same.

God's light and God's truth does the stuff

Leading back to the dwelling place of God.

On the Emmaus road, God's light and truth came alongside them

And explained everything.

They saw him (that's what light does - helps us to see), and they, both literally and metaphorically, went back to the dwelling place of God.

Now, all around us, there are travellers who are lost

Promises of a better life, a better society, broken.

Not knowing where home is

Or which guru to choose (multiple choices) to give them "truth"

Could this now be our mission?

We tell the one truth of the One Creator God who has always loved them and wants them back home.

We point to the Way, and as the light dawns the truth becomes real.

Jesus walks with them,

Bringing them home.
