(Luke 1 & 2)
Most of what we do has an expected outcome
But, if we think about it,
Outcomes often depend on the action of others.
We plan to arrive on time somewhere
But if the train is late?..
We start to engage with another
But if they aren't available?.
And these are just routine things.
What about the stuff that seems so much bigger?
The things that we may dream about
The outcomes that we intuitively know we cannot dictate?
The relative or friend who badly needs God but doesn't know it-or the tug to go to Africa and dig wells?.*
Gabriel has a busy time of it in Luke 1.
First, apprehending the doubting father of John the Baptist
Then the more pleasurable encounter with the trusting Mary.
The outcome of these fantastic plans certainly depended upon another.
These words - if they were to become reality, would have to have an "enabler"
A hinge point..where even in knowing the impossibility if it
Nevertheless, it will be done.
About halfway in to Luke 1, we find it.
"Nothing is impossible with God"
That 's it.
So whatever it is - the outcome that you need
That you cannot control or dictate
That's the hinge point.
You can't
God can.
(*..I didn't make this up-my friend dreams of going to Africa and digging wells. He is absolutely committed to the vision, but needs God to make the way)
