Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Red Letter Days

( 2 Cor 12 v 9 )

This is a true story.

It happened to someone I know extremely well.

Some years ago, my friend decided to resign from a top executive position, convinced that God had said so.

Four years after this, another decision needed to be faced. To move house.

The first decision was a move out of a high flying career

The second was a major geographic move away from all that was familiar.

In fact, thousands of miles away.

No circumstance seemed settled or stable.

It seemed that the "upward call" had gripped him, and he behaved like a man possessed and passionate.

Some envied him, some criticised.

In the midst of this period of instability a friend of his approached him.

He told him that, a while back he had been able to buy a new leather bound bible for £1 because it had a "printing error".

It was a "Red Letter" edition in which all the words of Jesus (not just those in the gospels) are printed in red.

Only, in this bible, they weren't. They were in black - just like the rest.

He told my friend that, he wanted him to have this particular bible.

Because he had found something.

And, this may help him in his walk with God through the turbulence and uncertainty.

It turned out that one verse in the whole bible had got the red letter treatment.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"

No other verse. Just that one.

At the very time it was needed, above all the other voices

Of envy and criticism and even encouragement, God came through with a word in the most creative way.

The voice of the shepherd.

It was a Red Letter Day.

My prayer for you and me is that we will have a lot of these.

Have a wonderful week, and a wonderful Easter.
