A really unhelpful concept that has made it's way into the life of the church is that if you try harder, you will get higher (or better, or deeper, or whatever).
Have you ever heard the enthusiastic invitation "who wants to go to the next level?"
And everyone shouts out that they do.
More numbers, better programmes, more innovative project ideas. Strive for the next level.
The problem with this is that levels don't exist in the kingdom of God.
They just don't, any more than there are levels in a mineshaft or in the sky.
It's just one great big space
You can't get to the next level
There isn't one
So what is the deal here?
The Bible is pretty clear that we have passed from one realm into another
"For He delivered us from the dominion (Literally authority) of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son" (Col 1 v 13)
And that
Is that.
Delivered - just like a baby.
And now, you are in another realm.
All your energy, thoughts and desires become orientated to this new experience..
The delight of knowing Him
Seeking His kingdom, and His righteousness
Not seeking another level, not worrying about the numbers.
Walking with Jesus, the King of the kingdom, enjoying the process of letting Him take over.
(Who ever put the thought into our heads that if the congregation doubled in the next year, then that would equal success?)
Stop worrying. The kingdom is all around you
Just enjoy it.
