(Hebrews 4, Psalms 127)
The experts tell us that the ratio of hours of quality sleep to the hours that it will support is about 1:2.
That makes sense when you think that out of the 24 hours available to us, we spend about 8 of them asleep.
But, in this driven society we have a problem in that we may have lost the ability to truly enjoy quality sleep, because we have forgotten how to be at rest.
And all of us probably know what that is like.
God, however, has a promise that there remains a "sabbath rest" for his people.
It first applied to the Israelites when they were tested in the desert and, through unbelief, some failed to make it to the promised land where there was already a feast waiting.
But it was called a "rest".
Those who enter it have done two things: They have ceased from their own work, and they have believed.
Which means that to "rest" (and fully enjoy God's goodness), you may have to take a break from your own efforts, and depend upon his.
It is a possibility that to be able to rest in all that God has done for you is a major key to getting a good night's sleep.
God is, after all, your father and he knows all your needs even before you ask.
And the last thing any father wants is rest - less children.
And, he grants sleep to those he loves - which (if you are in any doubt) is you!
Do not let stress or pressure rob you of this part of your inheritance.
God Bless.
