Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching tem everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Beginnings

As we start this new year, I wonder what God thinks about our calender.

There are so many out there.

Our New Year is tomorrow.

The Chinese New Year was 18th Feb

The Islamic New Year is March

The Jewish  New Year is September...

Different moments when they perhaps think about "a new beginning".

Your new beginning is nothing to do with dates or times or seasons, or even with religious festivals.

It is rooted in that one - time, for ever moment when you opened your heart to the greatest love that the world has ever known.

And 2 Cor 5 17 became true for you.

A new creature, with all the old passed away and all the new "come".

When we look at the New Year ahead of  us, it is in the continuum of that love that "will not let me go".

The ongoing story of that miracle which is "grace upon grace"

And with each passing year, we have the opportunity, not to truly start anew - that has already happened, but to thank God for his tender mercies and loving kindnesses.

Which are new.

Not only on each Jan 1st, but every morning.

May God bless you in 2008.
